This month's most popular question (for us) revolves around today's Anti-Virus software solution. Many AV companies have come and gone without many people even knowing about them. This is mainly due to the fact that viruses seem to be becoming less frequent and more forgettable. Due to this, when it comes time to address anti-virus updates and subscription expirations, the options before us lead us down familiar roads to names that we have known for a long time. These may include Norton, McAfee, and even AVG. Unfortunately, since people know so little about any OTHER anti-virus companies and since viruses are not the hot topic, normal computer users are not privy to new companies specializing in this area and we are not able to see how they may improve our computer's performance.
We have become accustomed to being able to find an AV software available for free to download. Our expectation levels have increased, as we must have sufficient protection from the many threats out there. The bigger companies have reformed their softwares many times and they now place quite a heavy burden on your machines. Customers complain of poor performance and it may be entirely due to the security software they have chosen. It almost feels like gambling every time an update notice appears on your screen.
In light of this, All in One Support is currently evaluating three anti-virus softwares, and for the first time, none of them are free. It's been determined (and is pretty clear to see) that the amount of protection for people using the "free versions" of anti-virus solutions are significantly less than those protected by the same software, using the standard version of that respective software.
The current softwares under evaluation (for Home/Personal) are: BitDefender Antivirus - $24.95 Kaspersky Antivirus - $39.95 Webroot Antivirus - $39.95
Each has some great features and all have great protection mixed with low utilization of your PC's resources.
Stay tuned for next month's newsletter to see which AV software makes the cut!
As always, be sure to call us if you have any questions or concerns related to viruses, malware or spyware on your computer.
