NEWS: There's a New Anti-Virus in Town
 

     

 

BitDefender takes the gold in our recent "Antivirus Software Discovery" initiative. It is also rated #1 on many other review websites, and for good reasons.

 

At $24.95 a year (for home and personal use), you can't argue about the price for the top-notch protection it offers. Additionally, it addresses today's #1 problem with other AV softwares...slowing down your machines!

The overhead of this software is minimal, at most and it offers a wide spectrum of protection tools:

  • Anti-Virus

  • Anti-Malware

  • Anti-Phishing

  • Identity Control

  • Vulnerability Monitor

  • Program Exposure Monitoring

  • Network Discovery

Our findings come from a variety of categories and were determined on how well it stood up to other competitors. These categories consist of:

  • How easy is it to install?

  • How easy is it use?

  • How easy are the updates?

  • How well does it work?

  • (MOST IMPORTANTLY) How is their support?

I am happy to say that there is still an AV software out there that ranks as "highly acceptable" in every category.

This software also offers a business package and is just as easy to setup.

 

OVERALL:

Bottom line is that it works great, but like any AV software, the scans really slow your machine. Just make sure you set your scan for off-hour times and you are good to go.

 

Pros: Inexpensive, highly effective, low CPU utilization

 

Cons: It isn't free, long installation, must call for business package pricing

TIPS:

This month's tip is how you can backup your photos online, while having the ability to create great products for your friends and family. While it's nice to have these new services for our personal photos, this service also acts as an online storage facility for your most important data!

There are VERY many photo websites and each offer a variety of services. Here are a few sites to start with:

 

"Kodak is one of the oldest and most respected names in the photo industry. The Kodak EasyShare Gallery is available online or you can download the application to your computer and organize your photos without an Internet connection. The application works seamlessly with the online service making orders as easy as pie.

However, we found that Kodak’s more expensive pricing, expensive shipping, later delivery and average photo quality is what kept them from ranking higher."

 

"Shutterfly offers some of the best photo gifts on the Internet and has a wonderful photo managing application. Additionally, they are working to build a community that allows users from all over the country to create personal webpages and upload their custom digital photo books. However, Shutterfly’s per print price is nothing special. They are not the most expensive service we reviewed, but they are certainly not the cheapest.

As one of the most popular online digital printing services on the Internet, Shutterfly has easily made a name for itself in the industry. However, we were slightly disappointed with Shutterfly’s overall results in our review. Their special features just couldn’t overcome their average quality prints."

 

 

"Snapfish combines an easy to use service with quality prints at the right price. You can also send your photos to a local Walgreens, Meijer or Staples and a variety of local photo kiosks for pick-up printing. In addition to great prints, Snapfish offers video uploads, a quick desktop uploader application, camera phone support, a comprehensive selection of custom photo gifts, group rooms and unlimited online storage."
