NEWS:

If Christmas Means FREE Software: Open Source May Be The Way To Go

Many companies and residential customers face the annual burden of having to purchase software in order to conduct business or even communicate with others. These prices have become expensive enough that they can be (in fact) the make-or-break decision, especially when purchasing a new computer. Additionally, over time we lose track of the discs and other valued media needed for re-installations. With Christmas around the corner, here's a way you can save a lot of extra cash and end the mundane process of storing all of your old manuals and discs in manila envelopes.

Below is a list of alternate softwares to some big names. Each of these have been developed to work with Windows products.  For a healthy collection of other open source softwares, visit OpenSourceWindows (www.opensourcewindows.org).

OpenOffice (in place of Microsoft Office)

Gimp (in place of PhotoShop)

Mozilla Thunderbird (in place of Outlook)

7-Zip (in place of WinZip)

VLC (in place of Windows Media Player)

FoxIt Reader (in place of Adobe Reader)

Not OPEN SOURCE, but the free reader works very well.
